Schreiber serial numbers
The German student clarinet, and its Buffet link.
Gebrüder Schreiber built German clarinets from the 19th century; the student models are the core of the line. The archive documents the Schreiber numbering and the well-traveled link: Buffet's E11/E12/B10/B12 student clarinets were made by Schreiber.

W. Schreiber publishes only an instrument registration page (/en/register-my-instrument) and no serial-number table or lookup. Schreiber numbers matter beyond the brand itself because the German student Buffet models E11/E12/B10/B12 carry Schreiber numbers.
Codes, eras and engraving
Schreiber numbers on Buffet student clarinets (E11/E12/B10/B12) — about 1960-1990
The German student clarinets sold as Buffet E11, E12, B10 and B12 were built by Schreiber and carry SCHREIBER serial numbers with no published chart. A 'Buffet' student clarinet therefore does not fit the Buffet Crampon chart at all, and reading it there produces a wrong year. The only rate information found in the community sources is an average of about 675 serial numbers per year in the first half of the 1960s.
| Buffet E11 / E12 / B10 / B12 with a Schreiber number | These student models carry Schreiber numbers, not Buffet numbers; the Buffet chart does not cover them. Schreiber's official site publishes only an instrument-registration form. | |

Schreiber does not publish a serial-year chart: the official site offers only a registration form, and no community table was found (dcsax, Stohrer, woodwind.org and the adams-music index carry no Schreiber numbers). The brand is nevertheless relevant to Buffet owners: the German student models E11/E12/B10/B12 were made by Schreiber and carry Schreiber numbers, so those instruments cannot be dated with the Buffet clarinet chart. Date a Schreiber by the model, the badge and the keywork, or ask the firm through the registration page.
Questions
Can this archive date Schreiber instruments from the serial number?
Not from the number — no public serial chart exists for this maker, and the archive does not guess dates.
Where is the serial number on a Schreiber instrument?
For Bassoons the common location is on the boot (butt) joint cap or the wing joint — Heckel stamps it under the boot cap.
What if my Schreiber serial number is not found?
Recheck the characters exactly as marked, including any letters. Letter prefixes often belong to student or stencil lines. Some periods may not be covered yet — every refusal here says why.
